Real talk for tech leaders.
From someone driving transformation at scale.
“Because the hardest part is rarely the technology.”
Applied tech leadership.
What actually works.
Most technology podcasts are about the technology. CTO Unfiltered isn’t. It’s about the people, the politics, the organizational dynamics, and the hard decisions that define whether a technology leader succeeds or gets shown the door.
Mike Schubert brings the one perspective missing from most of the conversations out there: a senior exec who’s actively running a massive portfolio, learning in real time, and willing to say what others won’t.
Regulated industries. Fortune 500 reality. No hype. No punditry. Just the practitioner lens — where “just move fast” gets people fired.

EP. 3 – Building Systems that Build People
Elite performance in engineering organizations isn’t about finding rock stars — it’s about building the systems that produce them. In this episode, Mike Schubert breaks down two Harvard Business Review research pieces that share a single underlying thesis: team performance is a design problem,...
Ep. 2 – Agents are Everywhere. Now What?
What does it mean to lead through uncertainty when the technology underneath you is moving faster than your governance, your metrics, and your comfort level? Mike Schubert digs into four things: Harvard research on why sharing uncertainty builds trust; Microsoft Agent 365 and the...
Episode 1 – You Don’t Need Another Tech Podcast. Here’s Why I Made One Anyway
Most tech podcasts talk about technology. This one talks about what actually makes or breaks a technology leader: people, change, and the gap between what organizations want and what they can absorb. In this opening episode, Mike lays out his case — who he...

About the Host
Mike Schubert has spent 30 years navigating the gap between what technology promises and what organizations can actually absorb. He went back to Georgia Tech for a graduate degree in Computer Science (AI focus) — not at 22, but mid-career, after already running large programs.
He oversees a technology portfolio north of $75M in a Fortune 500 regulated environment. He has shipped AI initiatives in insurance, spoken at AI4, been published in academic research, and spent three decades watching good technology fail because of bad change management.
He built this show because the conversation he wanted to have did not exist. Real talk. Practitioner lens. No hype.
“The job is really about people and change leadership. Technology is the context, not the content.”
— Mike Schubert
